What to Wear: What NOT to wear to an Outdoor Wedding

For many of us wedding invites have flooded our mailbox for this summer! I had the pleasure of attended a destination wedding in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, and the big question was “what am I going to wear?!”. Most outdoor weddings are often less formal than other weddings, they are semi formal or sometimes casual. I was lucky enough to find this beautiful dress at Nordstrom Rack! The beautiful celebration was held outdoors, yes the heat was important but when I was tackling the task of what to wear, I kept these four “don’t” in mind.DON’T:

  1. Wear a White Dress: This is the biggest NO, maybe it’s an old-school rule but it is the bride’s special day and there are plenty of colors to choose from ladies. Don’t be THAT girl.
  2. Wear a Super Tight or Short Dress: Leave that for the club ladies; there will be children, parents, and the brides and grooms grandparents. Lets keep it classy and leave something to the imagination.
  3. Wear Appropriate Undergarments: Please wear underwear, boy shorts, Spanx, or something under your dress. You never know when that wind will surprise you and the entire party will know what it looks like down under (I would die).
  4. Wear the Right Shoes: take a cue from the wedding invitation, if it is a beach or garden wedding a flat shoe would be ideal but if you need a heel go with a wedge. We have all experienced that uncomfortable feeling of sinking into a lawn, I’m pretty sure the sand would be just as bad.

Most importantly have fun with it, be yourself, and keep your hair and makeup simple and light.
